Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation Grants $35K To Tides Family Services

West Warwick, R.I., March 8, 2018 – Rhode Island families served by Tides Family Services will soon have access to better nutrition, thanks in part to a $35,000 grant from the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation.

The nonprofit organization will use the grant to hire a part-time nutritionist, who will conduct family assessments, provide nutrition and exercise consultation and training, offer exercise programs, and train the Tides staff to identify health concerns among their clients. Families will also receive packages of healthful foods called “Blessings in a Bag” as an incentive for participating.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation to address one of our most serious public health challenges, childhood obesity and nutrition,” said Beth Bixby, CEO of Tides Family Services. “Many of the families served by Tides face difficult financial decisions every day, such as how much they can afford to spend on nutrient-rich food when they also need to pay the rent and utilities or purchase necessary items such as winter coats. Many of them want to have healthier diets, and they need our support to make the necessary changes.”

“We are pleased to support the work of Tides Family Services, an organization that provides struggling families with such a wide variety of educational and support services,” said Tom Lamb, Chairman, President and CEO of Centreville Bank. “The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation is committed to helping build stronger Rhode Island communities, and stronger communities start with stronger, healthier individuals.”

“The timing of the grant could not be better, as we celebrate 35 years of service,” added Mary-Kate O’Leary, Vice President of Philanthropy for Tides Family Services. As our founder, Brother Michael Reis once said, ‘We cannot turn our backs on those who need us most.’ Thanks to the generosity of the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation, we will be able to serve approximately 2,000 children and adults.”
